Community Health Partnership annually awards special
needs grants to public health departments and health-
related organizations to assist public health workers in
meeting the urgent, unmet needs of their clients.
Typically, public health workers use these small grants to
help clients solve problems that can undermine their
access to care or ability to adhere to a treatment plan.
The special needs funds allow healthcare professionals the
flexibility to provide for services that are often not
covered within the parameters of health or social service
funding.
The Special Needs Grants program awards funds annually
through a competitive grant process. Grants are for a one
year period. Applications are due in September and
reviewed by the Special Needs Committee comprised of
current and retired public health nurses and community
members. Upon recommendations from the committee
and approval of the board, grants are awarded the
following January. Since the program’s inception in 2000,
Community Health Partnership has awarded $238,600 in
Special Needs grants (119 grants to 45 public health-
related organizations/partnerships) to address the urgent,
unmet health-related needs of both urban and rural
Oregonians. This includes 13 grants awarded to public
health and health-related organizations in December 2007.
