Michael Ralls

Michael Ralls MA, MS, former dean of students at New Urban High School in Milwaukie, Oregon. Mr. Ralls is a leading administrator in the state for school health and created a school environment that not only provides the educational tools needed for student success, but also one that provides the myriad other medical and social resources needed for at-risk adolescents to be able to learn. Mr. Ralls earned "Genius" status by securing numerous grants, building positive relationships with medical and mental health providers, and realizing his vision of a school that addresses the needs of the whole student.

Jennifer Jordan, MPH,(left) Program Coordinator of Chronic Disease Prevention at Lane County Public Health congratulates Jimmy E. Unger, MD, of Peace Health Medical Group, and Laurie Trieger, Executive Director, of Lane Coalition for Healthy Active Youth for their leadership role in addressing childhood obesity in Lane County. Lane Coalition for Healthy Active Youth has developed a toolkit for Lane County educators, convened the "Childhood Obesity Prevention: Tools for the Primary Care Practice" conference, and coordinated body mass index (BMI) data collection for nearly one-third of Lane County's K-8 school children.

2008 Innovative Achievement Award

Neena Goldberg and Pat Lewis

The "Innovative Achievement" award given to Neena Goldberg, BSN, RN, (not pictured) and Pat Lewis, PhD, for their outstanding work in the area of breastfeeding education and promotion. The women demonstrated bold innovation by producing two art shows called "The Art of Breastfeeding." A juried show in Lincoln City and an open art show for all ages in Newport advanced and reaffirmed the naturalness of breastfeeding.
