Foster Memorial Scholarship

2005 Recipients

Jennifer Gould is a graduate of South Eugene High School who is currently pursuing a BSN at Linfield College. Jennifer has been a volunteer with both the Peace Corps and Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Her career goal is to become a public health nurse with a specific focus on providing comprehensive, culturally competent care to Oregon’s Latino community.

Jennifer Holliday is a graduate of Grant Union High School in John Day, Oregon who is pursuing MD and MPH degrees at OHSU. Her volunteer work has included patient service work in the Obstetrics Department of Stanford Hospital as well as peer counseling at Stanford University’s Counseling Center. Jennifer’s career goal is to become a public health physician and advocate for rural communities through policy development and community-based interventions.

Lindsey Reynolds graduated from South Eugene High School and is currently pursuing an MPH with a focus on International Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Lindsey’s volunteer activities include field research in HIV prevention. Her career goal is to develop more effective prevention and care programs to address global public health issues, such as HIV/AIDS.

Carrie Wales is a graduate of Canby Union High School and is currently pursuing an MPH in the epidemiology and biostatistics track at OHSU. With an undergraduate degree in health education, her career goal is to conduct public health research with a focus on maternal and child health.

Shawnie Lavelle is a graduate of Dayton High School currently pursuing a BSN at OHSU. Her volunteer activities include working with street kids at a youth shelter in Mexico. Shawnie’s career goal is to become a public health nurse focusing on improving the health of Oregon’s Latino population.

Jacquelyn Martin graduated from Hensley High School in Klamath Falls and is currently pursuing a BSN at OHSU. Her volunteer activities include patient advocacy at Planned Parenthood. Jacquelyn’s career goal is to become a nurse practitioner who advises, treats and educates teenagers on issues affecting their health.

Suzan Nguyen is a graduate of Sunset High School in Beaverton currently enrolled at OHSU Dental School. She has volunteered at dental clinics as well as an emergency food program. Her career goals include completion of her DMD degree followed by pursuit of an MPH. Suzan’s goal is to be a practicing dentist with a focus on expanding dental access.

Penny Schumacher is a graduate of Champlain Valley High School in Vermont who is pursuing a BSN at Linfield College. Among her volunteer activities, Penny served on the Oregon Citizen Review Board where she reviewed cases of children in the custody of the Department of Human Services. She also works part-time as a health educator for Oregon’s DHS Office of Family Health. Penny’s goal is to combine public health and nursing to improve community health.
