Oregon's Public Health Institute

In response to recommendations from public health stakeholders across Oregon and the unanimous vote of our Board of Directors, Community Health Partnership initiated the development of Oregon’s Public Health Institute in October 2004. In 2005, CHP applied and was accepted as a member of the National Network of Public Health Institutes with 22 other states having Public Health Institutes. CHP’s reputation as an honest broker of information and a collaborative, independent organization with public health expertise will enable CHP to bring together many sectors of the community to advance the public’s health in Oregon. 

Across the country, Public Health Institutes (PHI) are non-partisan, highly collaborative and usually not-for-profit, non-governmental organizations working to improve health. The collaborative nature of public health institutes enable them to bring together state and local public health officials, the academic and research communities as well as not-for-profit organizations to work collaboratively to improve the public’s health. As Oregon’s Public Health Institute, Community Health Partnership will focus on priority areas identified by the public health stakeholders:

• Advocacy for effective public health policy in Oregon,
• Workforce development and leadership training,
• Marketing of public health, and
• Incubating public health programs.
